I heard crickets chirping for the first time in months last night. That means spring is finally here in Michigan. I woke up to birds chirping and I am now hopeful that summer is just weeks away. Ya’ll know that summer is my favorite time of year, I wanted to get this pattern out to give you plenty of time to whip it up before the real warm weather gets here.
What better way to release a pattern than to do it while collaborating with my fellow designers. We are doing a Spring Blog Hop which means I will be sharing 10 other spring designs with you! These are all free patterns made for spring by some very very talented ladies. Check out the links below with these amazing patterns!

Linked are the dates the patterns will be released. Click the designers name to go to their pattern:

Pattern Notes and Information
This Springtide Halter Top is made up of simple stitches (practically all SC and HDC) so it is beginner friendly. There are a few increasing and decreasing stitches uses, but with 1 or 2 YouTube tutorials, you’ll have those conquered in minutes. This is an advanced beginner or easy intermediate pattern.

SIZING – Increasing or Decreasing outside of patterns listed sizes
To increase the width of the top, every 4 starting chains you add (to both the front and back side of the pattern), should increase the with by 1 inch. For example if you wanted to make the top 3 inches wider you would add 12 more chains to your starting chain for the front and back piece of the top.
3 Inches X 4 Stitches/inch = 12 additional Chains
To increase the length of the top, every 3 rows will increase the top roughly 1 inch in length. So if you wanted to make the top 2 inches longer, you would add 6 more rows to both the front and back pieces of your project. I will note in the pattern at which point you will want to add these additional rows.
2 Inches X 3 Rows/inch = 6 additional Rows
To decrease the width or length of the top, use the same directions as you would to increase the length or width, but take away starting chains/rows instead of adding them. For example if you wanted to decrease the width by 3 inches instead of adding 12 chains to both sides, you would deduct 12 chains from both sides.

Materials
- Lionbrand Cotton Bamboo

- Weight 3 (light)
- 245 yards per skein
- 52% cotton, 48% rayon from bamboo
- Substitutes

Stitches Used
I will be using abbreviations (beginners check out my printable abbreviation cheat sheet) in this written pattern so here is a list of the names/abbreviations and brief directions for each:
Stitch (ST) – Next chain or stitch you are going to work into
Chain (CH) – After having an slip knot on your hook,
YO and pull through your slip knot. That is a chain 1. YO again and
pull through loop on hook. That is your chain 2, and so forth.
Slip Stitch (SS) – Insert hook into next
chain/stitch and yarn over. Pull through chain/stitch and continue to
pull through the loop on your hook.
Single Crochet (SC) – Insert hook into next chain/stitch and YO then pull through the chain/stitch. YO and pull through both loops on hook.
Half Double Crochet (HDC) – YO and insert hook into next chain/stitch and pull up a loop. YO and pull through all loops on hook.
Half Double Crochet Decrease (HDC2tog) – YO and insert hook into next chain/stitch and pull up a loop. YO and insert into the next chain/stitch and pull up another loop. You have 5 loops on hook at this point. YO and pull through all 5 loops.

Seaming Springtide Halter Together
I figured a video was the best way to show you guys how to put this all together! It is super quick and hopefully it answers any questions you have about the construction of this top. However if you do still have questions, leave them in the comment section at the end of this post and I will respond as quickly as I can!
You will CH 20 for both shoulder straps. That should work with every size, but if you’re unsure, after you SC across the top, do your CH 20, SC across the back and CH 20 and tied off, just slip the top over your head to make sure its a comfortable fit. If it is too tight try adding 3-5 chains on each side of the strap. Meanwhile, if it is too loose (keeping in mind that there will be a hook or button closing the back together in the next step) decrease it by 3 – 5 chains.

AFTER you seam up your top, you will then want to add your hook and eye closure. I cut these ones out of an old bra, but you can find these hooks at most craft stores. You can buy a multi pack here on Amazon.
Similarly, a button could also work as a closure option if you have some laying around you’d like to try.

Spring to Summer Fashion
This top will be a perfect transitioning piece from spring to summer. I even think it would look cut in the fall with a flannel. Altering the length of this top makes it something you can wear out, wear to work, or wear to the beach. In other words, it’s AH-mazing. There is nothing better than when someone asks where you bought your shirt, and you get to tell them you made it!
If you have any questions about this pattern please leave a comment below and I will help you best I can! Thank you so much for following along with me and my patterns XOXO Tay
Shouldn’t line one of both the front and back include the words “and each chain across”?
That would make more sense. Cute top. Thanks so much for your pattern.
It definitely should! Thank you so much!
What are the measurements for the medium size top!
Medium top is about 34 inches wide and could easily stretch to 36″
Hi, just wondering what are the measurements of the small top? Thank you 🙂
32-34 inches
You are very kind to share your free patterns. Anyone with half a brain should be grateful knowing it takes many hours making sure patterns are precise. Anyway Thank you so much for your generosity.
Thank you so much Anna ❤️
Hi there just looking for some clarification.
Rows 4-19 says to repeat Row 3. However this doesn’t increase the stitches just repeating the HDC across. Also, it says “your row 22 will end with M – 56 sts “ but this just confuses me since it’s only for rows 4-19.
I’m newer to crocheting so I think I just need some help!
Thanks in advance
You are right it is a typo, I meant repeat row 5. I will fix that, thank you!
Hello. Love your pattern. Had a quick question. I’m working in the back. It looks as though you have decreased your count for a couple rows but from what I am reading you indicate to decrease one row (row 25) and then continue as you would normally in each stitch across from row 26 to 35. Are rows 26-29 decrease rows?
Yes that is what I meant to write! I will have to edit that! Thank you!
Thank you so much. Now to finish the top for my daughter. 🙂
Hi, I have a question, how many SC do you do when you SC around the sides when seaming the pieces? Like one or two for each row. I hope you can understand my doubt
It can vary depending on your guage. I generally do one SC per row, but you may find that you need to add an additional stitch every 3rd row or so. I hope that helps!
okay thanks, now i’ll try and see what works better! I loved the pattern as it’s very customizable
This pattern is great!! I am working on it now to go with a skirt I just ctocheted!! Tgank you so very much!!!
I have a quick question concerning the yarn for this pattern. I couldn’t find the recommended but I was able to find the Lionbrand Jean yarn. However, the yarn was weight 4. Elsewhere in your pattern you say to use weight three. Is this a change on the part of Lionbrand or will it still work for your pattern?
Thank you so much!!
I made one top in a green color and one in a blue color. They were technically different weights. The weight four was a lighter weight for. Most light weight fours or any weight three yarns should work fine
Hi! Thank you so much for your pattern! I’m making this for my son’s girlfriend and her waist measurement is a 31, but bust is 41. Would you recommend stating with the medium and increasing at the bust? Thanks so much.
Yes I think that would be best!
Hi ! I’m a crochet beginner and I would love to try this pattern, your explanations are very clear thank you ! I just have a question about the yarn : I can’t seem to find a cotton weight 3 yarn in my shop, do you think a weight 2 would work ? (catania from schachenmayr more specifically) Thanks !
You could but you’d have to go up a size (maybe more than one size) to make up for using smaller yarn
Hello! I just wanted to say that I loved this pattern and wanted to thank you for making it free. The pattern is super accurate with the measurements and drapes really pretty on the body.
I’ve just completed the top in less than 5 days and I knew nothing about crochet before this. I’ve spent so much time at home lately that I run out of hobbies and decided to try this pattern because it looked easy enough, so I ordered some cotton yarn and set about to learn the basics of crochet on youtube. I’m very happy with the result, and I must say I only made 1 mistake that I wasn’t about to unravel to fix but it’s not very visible anyway, so…
Now I will probably try some of your other patterns, since I overstimated the yarn I would need for this (with my skeins being measured in grams and meters I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to fall short…)
Anyway, thank you so much again and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hi, was wondering if I could sell tops created using your pattern? 🙂
Yes please do!
For the front it has row 6-19 then says row 22 should be x amount of stitches. Should that be 6-22? Or is the 22 supposed to be 19?
Hi, I want to made this in Medium…I am using COBOO Lion Brand…..for the front you said we need 28 chain but it is only 5 inch with my 3.25 hook. Is it too small.?
I am confuse maybe because my english is not good, but I love how you explain.
This is working from the top down so as you do more rows, the width will increase.
Hello, I am a beginner in crocheting and am making your top for my daughter.
